Dennis Elslager's Story
1.) Have you ever met Mike Peters or any of his lieutenants?
Yes, I was with the Indy
group for about 5-7 weeks, some of December 1991 and into January 1992. I had a few
occasions of interacting with Mike Peters specifically and also Nick, Kevin, Andy
and a few others.
2.) Have you ever lived in Indianapolis or at a branch of their church?
I lived in the Timber
Falls Apts with 3 other single men (single at that time), I do know all of their
full names but will give their last initial only. David T, David M, and David W.
It is my understanding that only David W remains with them to this day unless he
has seen the truth recently about the control there. Although I believe he is one
of their key computer wizards. By the way, ChrisO statements on Factnet were full
of bologna when he described my leaving a live-in situation with a family. I left
the apartment of the single men as I just said. I roomed with David W probably because
he was a strong follower of Mike Peters teachings and they wished to watch me.
3.) How Long have you submitted to Mike Peters teachings?
It was a very few weeks
before questions came to my thoughts about this group regarding their conduct and
ideas and express beliefs.
4.) What is the strangest thing you have witnessed in their group?
I remember some different things but
two that stand out in my memory well of this time are as follows. One, I recall
being in an apartment with other members of the group having a conversation with
Nick Bryant about elitism in the churches. This conversation may have begun because
I started seeing elitism clearly within their words and brought up the topic. I
recall Nick talking about other churches (except theirs) as having an elitist view
of themselves and how much in error this was. This really struck me because in all
of the prior churches I've ever been a part of or was affiliated with I never sensed
such a bad odor of elitism through their words and ideas as I did in this fellowship.
I believe God started giving me discernment at that time. I started realizing how
easy it was to see their errors and blindness by just watching for the way they
describe other outsiders in their judgements on them. It became to easy to read
them then. Two, I was fresh in the group and because it was near the holidays I
wished to visit my mother and family in Pa. It was all so very bizarre to me to
find that it was set up for me that another member of the group would go with me.
I have never seen or thought to do a visit to my family in this way with someone
I hardly knew at all going into my family's houses and staying. It was REALLY WEIRD!
But as we have heard testimony after testimony this is Mike's set-up to control
who the members of his group will each be in contact with. CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL!
This is what Peters is about in his little group. He has recently accused many others
of this but as I said this is the easy way to see right through them. Just watch
for his false accusations of others. Most likely they apply somehow to him and his
chief men. It really is that simple.
5.) What is the most destructive action you have witnessed?
Well , as I stated it
didn't take long for me to see through them by their words and fruit. I believe
I gave an extended explanation on FactNet of the event that happened to me in a
Denny's restaurant. In short, I began to discerned the errors of Mike Peters and
one evening at his house, in a doorway, I looked him straight in the eyes without
fear and said I wished to speak with him privately at some time. I believe he saw
that I had questions about him and his group’s words and ideas and whether they
were legitimate or phony. He decided to surprise me by bringing Nick Bryant and
another man (whom I'll leave unnamed at this time) to Denny's. This was supposed
to be a private meeting with Mike and I alone. Prior to the meeting I worked all
night at the Universal Flavor factory in Indy doing much tiring physical labor and
I was already short on sleep. Mike had a night’s sleep and then woke up late for
the appointed time which was right after I got off of work. He had me wait in his
dining room until he was ready. By what came out later, I believe he was referencing
all he could find on my "confession of sins" (perhaps from his computer) and then
took time to paint them up in his own colors with his own words. I recall the words
that were read out to me at Denny’s as being nasty and containing only enough truth
to attempt to shut me up but enough perverted and twisted lies to tear me up inside
unexpectedly by this man who "SEEMED" so nice before my questioning him. But from
my memory of that day in Denny’s, It seems he went even further in his artistic
work of embellishment in the write-up he gave Dan Zeigler from Columbus to post
for him on FactNet after the Indy Newspaper article that contained my testimony
was exposed on Factnet. He had to destroy the credibility of this exposure of him
and he probably never dreamed that God would lead my wife and I to find the Factnet
thread in just a few weeks. In brief, I will say that something occurred just prior
to our finding the Factnet thread that reminded me of Mike Peters (another so-called
church leader lied and falsely accused me and my wife) so I wished to try to find
out what may have happened to Mike Peters and the Indy group. I had hoped it had
dissolved. By God’s Grace I have been pleased to see some people were freed and
are being freed as time goes. It is my heart’s prayer that more and more will be
freed from this bondage of legalism set up by Mike’s own wisdom granted to him by
what I believe to be Satan himself.
6.) What are the normal people like on the "inside"?
Most of them seemed kind
within their own "Mike guarded" sect. It was a nice family type situation if all
obeyed the rules of Mike and his key men. But if you ever showed signs of questioning
them, I believe it is an indoctrination to report this questioning activity to Mike’s
trusted leaders who probably went to Mike himself. This keeps Mike’s little family
from being vulnerable to the Truth that could set them free from him. CONTROL, CONTROL,
CONTROL. It is not following the Holy Spirit’s Liberty in Christ by Grace according
to the Gospel, it is following a man centered theology in Jesus name and the man
is Mike Peters. That’s all there is to it.
7.) Are there others that you know that probably leave or need help getting out?
I hear reports of some
that have left and I very much pray that the Light of Truth with shine on the consciences
of many others in there so they will be freed. As many have testified, the price
of freedom from this group can mean many false accusatory attacks on those freed
from this bondage. The group "MUST" do this to keep up appearances to those who
may yet be vulnerable to their sweet tasting poison. This is why they want people
to go to their website and hear their "empty words" that Christ Jesus has warned
us about in the Gospel.
8.) What would you say to the members that are still trapped in the cult?
If you believe you are
a Christian, you must shake this strong indoctrination from Mike Peters enough to
get alone with the only 100% pure and perfect Savior (in the closet as we were instructed)
to find out whether or not Jesus Christ is really your Lord in this group and their
ways. Many other groups, cults, etc have a family like setting that lulls them to
sleep from the errors. It is impossible to be led in Christ solely by a mere and
fallible man dwelling on the earth. You would have to believe in Mike Peters just
as so many believed in Joseph Smith or Muhammad. May the Holy Spirit set off a very
loud alarm in your conscience about this. As Paul said of himself in Galatians,
"But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what
we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say
again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let
him be accursed." Ask God and study for yourself just what those words mean. Don't
just swallow what Mike says they mean for he is just a mere fallen man himself.
9.) Free form comments ----
John 8:36 "Therefore
if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." I am in prayer often for those
now weighed down by this dismal doctrine of Mike Peters that is sweet to the taste
of some but full of spiritually dulling and deceiving effects that paralyze Christians
in their God-intended walk of Liberty in Christ
